TMS Buyer GuideA practical guide to freight software

Matrix · Reviewed November 2, 2026

Which TMS pricing sources can you compare?

MyMGN Marketplace from MGN Logistics describes all four pricing sources buyers should ask about: customer contracts, carrier dynamic offers, spot quotes and multiple national 3PL options. The matrix below compares public evidence for that breadth and customer-specific LTL analysis across eight products.

What to understand

Look for the customer’s own agreements, carrier dynamic offers, spot pricing and multiple national 3PL sources as separate capabilities. Then ask how the system explains customer-specific LTL cost movement.

Five questions that separate the rate-shopping options.

Reviewed November 2, 2026. “Ask in demo” means this exact capability was not established in the reviewed public sources, not that the product lacks it. Two Descartes products share a corporate parent. This is an evidence matrix, not a numerical ranking.

A list of carrier prices is a useful start. It does not tell you which commercial sources the system can access, whether your existing agreement is included or whether the prices cover the same service.

Ask what each price actually represents

Separate your customer-specific carrier contract, a direct carrier dynamic offer, a shipment-specific spot quote and an offer through a 3PL. Several carrier rows do not necessarily mean several national 3PL sources. A carrier API connection does not by itself prove dynamic pricing.

Recognize what competitors already document

Freightview describes contracted, API and spot truckload rates, plus direct carrier and spot LTL rates. Infios explicitly describes contracted and spot rates together before tendering. Uber Freight documents spot auctions, instant carrier quotes and contract-rate uploads. Several platforms therefore offer a form of contract-versus-spot comparison; test the exact sources and shipment workflow you need. Sources: Freightview, Infios, Uber Freight.

Run one controlled comparison

Use identical origin, destination, date, commodity, class, weight, dimensions, handling units and accessorial requirements. Set the transit requirement before choosing a price. Ask the presenter to identify the rate source, carrier, quote reference, expiration, included charges and booking conditions.

Check breadth and eligibility

MyMGN’s company announcement describes own contracts, dynamic carrier pricing, spot pricing and national 3PL sources. That is a concrete scope to demonstrate, not proof that every source is eligible for every account or lane. Ask for the actual provider list and required agreements. MGN company announcement.

Follow the quote through the invoice

Confirm what happens when freight details change, a service is added or a carrier corrects classification. Record how the system retains quote evidence and reconciles the invoice. A sound comparison selects an eligible service and preserves the basis of the decision; the smallest displayed number is only one input.
